Trummors Release Final Pre-Release Single “I Can Still Make Cheyenne” Ahead of New Album
Trummors, the American folk-rock duo comprising David Lerner and Anne Cunningham, has released their final pre-release single ahead of their forthcoming album. The new album, simply entitled “5,” is set to be released on April 12 on Ernest Jenning Record Co. and is available for pre-order.
The latest single, “I Can Still Make Cheyenne,” is a cover of the famous George Strait song written by Aaron Barker and Erv Woolsey. The band’s version debuted this week at Glide Magazine and is now available on all streaming platforms.

In a statement, David Lerner said, “We wanted to showcase that neo-traditional influence alongside our love of West Coast stuff like The Byrds and Burrito Brothers. ‘I Can Still Make Cheyenne’ is a song about how even a sadly inevitable breakup can have a certain beauty and integrity.”
The new album, recorded in Los Angeles by Dan Horne, features Clay Finch (Mapache), Colby Buddelmeyer (The Tyde), Dan Horne (Circles Around The Sun), and Tiffanie Lanmon (Night Shop, Street Fruit). The artwork is by D. Norsen.
“5” promises to be a fresh, sparkling, and lovely album that steps outside the shadow of its predecessors with a confidence that feels rare indeed. The album features a deep, almost Talmudic knowledge of a thousand country rock records, but it steps outside the shadow of that knowledge with a startling immediacy that cuts through the fog in one’s head and one’s mood every time it comes pouring out of the speakers.
Trummors have been living with these songs for a long time. They wrote them before the pandemic struck in 2020 and demoed them at home repeatedly before finally getting together with Horne in the producer’s chair. They tracked the record in Los Angeles over about a week, did a bit of overdubbing later in Taos, and thus, after that long period of uncertainty, “5” arrived at its final form fairly quickly.
Trummors’ fans and followers will eagerly await the release of “5” on April 12, and with the release of their final pre-release single, “I Can Still Make Cheyenne,” they will surely be left wanting more.
The track follows the release of singles “Hey Babe” and “Cosmic Monster.”
