Nat Myers stands out as a unique artist in today’s music world. His music blends the past and the present, creating a sound that is both nostalgic and modern. Meeting Nat in person, one can’t help but notice his kind and clever personality, which is evident in his videos and even more so in person.

The video was filmed at Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery, and the positive energy in the room was infectious. We are grateful to the distillery, especially our friend Dara, for providing such an amazing location.

Myers grew up in Kansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky. He was a restless child who destroyed his trumpet and preferred skateboarding and pop-punk. His mom got him a guitar, but his true passion was poetry, especially classics like Shakespeare and Homer’s Odyssey. “I love putting pen to paper and needle to vinyl,” he says.

His interest in music was sharpened by poetry, specifically in the blues that his father had a great love for. He came to the realization that these itinerant musicians from the ’30s and ’40s, who told real American epics even before recorded sound, were his true inspiration. This led him to delve deeper into the blues so that he could write his own epic. He attended the New School in New York City to study poetry while working odd jobs to make ends meet. Eventually, he started busking on street corners and in subway stations by playing a few covers and more of his original songs for commuters and tourists. On his first day busking, he made $20, which was not great but was a godsend as it was his first income as a poet. It was also then that he realized that poets today should be performing.
